Pipes in Olea Excelsa of Sardina

It is known that before using Erica Arborea (briar), as well as using various materials such as clay and Meerschaum, the pipes were manufactured with the most varied woods. All these woods did not have great resistance to heat, therefore it was necessary to find a particularly resistant essence.

Thus it was that in the 1980s the Paronelli family began experimenting with pipes in Olea Excelsa of Sardinia. This ancient essence (distant relative of the olive tree) is characterized by an aromatic intensity (also given to the smoke) and by an evident black vein.

The seasoning process is undoubtedly laborious and complicated. The wood before being able to transform it into a pipe must be "washed" in sea water to remove its high oily component and subsequently washed in fresh water to eliminate the salt accumulated in the previous process. Only at this point it is possible to proceed with an adequate seasoning. As can be well understood, production is necessarily limited.

These pipes in Olea Excelsa are usually offered in two finishes. Pipes naturals sandblasted (without added colors or wax) or smooth pipes where it is possible to better enhance the veining and the warm-amber color that give these pipes an unquestionable recognition and value.
